Khordha: VLW Sentenced to 2 Yrs RI in Bribery Case 

Bhubaenswar: A VLW-cum-Executive Officer in Khordha district has been sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment following his conviction in a bribery case.

Ashok Kumar Patasahani, VLW-cum-Executive Officer, Hirapur GP, I/c Botalama GP under Begunia Block and currently VLW, Bolagarh Block in Khordha district, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a beneficiary for preparation of bill against an IAY house constructed by him and disbursement of the 2nd installment in his favour, was convicted by the Court.

Patasahani has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.10,000.

In default of payment of fine, the VLW will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act,1988.

The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.10,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Patasahani from service following his conviction.
