Bhubaneswar: In spite of unfavourable conditions due to second wave of COVID upsurge, the Khurda Road division has achieved top position in freight loading over Indian Railways, in the month of June 2021.
The division has loaded 12.74 Million tonnes of freight in June-2021, which is 11% of the total freight loading carried out by the Indian Railways i.e 112.66 Million Tonnes and 67% of the total loading carried out by the East Coast Railway zone i.e 19.11 Million Tonnes, according to an official release.
The division has also surpassed its last year’s loading in June 2020 by 2.52 Million Tonnes. In June 2021, an average of 115 Rakes of freight loaded per day by the division from various loading points at Talcher, Paradeep, Dhamara, Nayagarh, Meramandali, Sukinda, Budhapank, etc. The different goods loaded are Coal, Iron ore, fertilizers, petroleum products, raw materials etc, to various powerhouses, manufacturing companies, Production units and Industries across the country.
In the month of June 2021, the Khurda road division has registered ever best loading from Jindal Siding, Sukinda by loading 37 rakes and from Nalco Siding, Budhapank, by loading 11 rakes. In addition to this, the division has also made a record of unloading 32 rakes at Jagannathpur Goods shed in June 2021. This has been achieved despite unfavourable conditions and less workforce due to the second wave of COVID upsurge.
During the second wave of COVID-19, the division has transported 2799 Tonnes liquid Medical Oxygen from various steel plants under its jurisdiction to different states having insufficient oxygen for treating COVID patients.
