K’taka logs 30 Covid deaths in August

Bengaluru:  With six fresh Covid fatalities in the past 24 hours in Karnataka, the state has logged 30 deaths in the first 11 days August.

The state recorded 1,691 cases in the past 24 hours, of which Bengaluru alone reported 1,225 infections.

To tackle the rising number of Covid infections, the state government on Friday began free booster dose vaccination.

According to statistics of the Health department, “Five deaths were reported in April, six in May, 10 in June and 29 in July. In the first 11 days of August, 30 persons have died due to Covid. The deaths of young people without any co-morbidities has been a matter of concern.”

A 20-year-old girl and 60-year-old elderly person succumbed to deadly disease this week. They were not having any co-morbidities.

After the third wave, the death toll was reported in single digits and for a long time, zero Covid deaths were reported.

The Covid Technical Recommendation Committee has already asked the government to conduct audit of Covid deaths. The committee has also brought to the notice of the government that people have forgotten about dangers of Covid.

The number of people who succumbed to this deadly disease has increased to 40,134. The positivity rate in the state has gone up to 6.09 per cent. There are 10,054 active cases in the state.

So far, 40.26 lakh people have been affected with Covid and 39.75 lakh have recovered, according to official statistics.

State Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has slammed the people for not coming forward to get vaccinated with booster dose even when it is given free of cost.
