New Delhi: Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj passed away in New Jersey state of US on Monday. He was 90.
The legendary vocalist, who turned 90 in January this year, died of cardiac arrest at his house in New Jersey.
“With profound grief we inform that Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji breathed his last this morning at 5.15 EST due to a cardiac arrest at his home in New Jersey, USA,” his family said.
Jasraj, one of India’s greatest music legends, belonged to the Mewati Gharana. He was in the US when the country went into lockdown due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
With musical career spanning over 80 years, Pandit Jasraj was awarded with honours such as Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
