Mumbai: Anil Deshmukh has resigned as the Home Minister of Maharashtra.
The development comes after the Bombay High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to start a preliminary investigation into the corruption allegations of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against Anil Deshmukh.
Deshmukh decided to quit in a meeting with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule, according to reports.
The Court noted that a fair probe was not probable as long as Anil Deshmukh was the state Home Minister.
