Thiruvanathapuram: Malayalam megastar Mammootty has shared a Behind-The-Scenes (BTS) clip of the climax scene of his recently released blockbuster venture ‘Kannur Squad’.
The clip details the set design, makeup, and choreography used for the whole scene.
After speaking in Malayalam about director Roby Varghese Raj’s filming method and the hectic work schedule, the video showed the entire set construction of the climax.
Instead of being shot in a studio, this was done open air where the designers built a whole ghetto from scratch, including its interior aesthetics. After working 24×7 day and night, the set was completed within a span of 14 days.
Proceeding to the make-up, a lot of aesthetic choices were kept deliberately minimalist so as to feel much more real and authentic. Various supporting actors such as Saraswat Pandey and Ankit Madhav were shown getting done in their outfits, and how they went on to carefully employ very minimal makeup, and non flashy outfits.
The video then cut to the choreography of the climax action scene, where a whole battle is being rehearsed. Using actual torches and props such as rods, these scenes were choreographed with full authenticity.
As such, there was no use of stunt coordinators or specialists, as the actors themselves practiced the whole scene. Due to ‘Kannur Squad’ not having the glamour and fashion of typical cinema, an entirely minimalist approach was utilised to portray a village style real life battle scene.
Therefore, instead of brandishing any kind of swords, or cleavers, the props used as weapons consisted of your average wooden log, metal rod, piece of brick, and torches.
The entire shoot was done with practical effects with actual torches, and real flames. This attested to the hard work that was put into producing the whole film and the many deliberate choices that were made, in order to keep things as rooted and authentic as possible.
