Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the cameraman Manas Swain murder case, the prime accused Sarmishta Rout was arrested on Monday.
Rout and her associate Jhuna Bhoi were arrested from the Nalanga area of Bhadrak district by the joint teams of Bhadrak police and Crime Branch, according to reports.
Both the accused persons will be produced before the JMFC court in Chandbali today.
The Crime Branch will seek the court’s permission to take Sarmistha, Jhuna, and five other accused on remand for a period of 10 days for further investigation.
Notably, Manas Swain, a cameraman of a local web channel, was kidnapped from Bhadrak on February 6 and brought to Dayal Ashram, an old age home, run by the prime accused Sarmistha Rout in Bhubaneswar, where he was assaulted physically. Later, on March 12, the body of Swain was recovered from Badhipatna hills in Rajsunakhala area of Nayagarh.
