Bhubaneswar: In a blow to the Odisha BJP, several grassroots BJP workers in Udala block in Mayurbhanj district have quit the party and joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here today.
More than 50 BJP workers including Udala block chairman took the membership of the BJD in the presence of party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence here.
Welcoming the new members to the party fold, the BJD supremo said that their joining will further strengthen the party.
Earlier on September 2, the ruling party had launched its membership drive with a target to register at least one crore members in its fold by the end of October.
