Monsoon Rains Continue To Lash Various Districts, Two Breaches Reported In Jagatsinghpur

Bhubaneswar: Continuous rains due to the active South-west monsoon clouds have lashed various districts of Odisha in the last 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, the rains will continue in the next three days. According to the Met Department, “A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during next 2- 3 days.  Another fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal around 18th July, 2023.”

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nawarangapur on Sunday. It also issued Orange warning and said heavy to very heavy Rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawarangapur, Koraput. In the last 24 hours, significant rainfall values have been recorded at various places with Jharsuguda getting 124.0 mm, Chandbali 81.0 mm and Balasore getting 25.0 mm rainfall.

Meanwhile, low laying areas in various districts have witnessed water logging and flood like situation due to the continuous rains in the last 24 hours and affected normal life. Two breaches have been reported in Jagatsinghpur district due to which water is entering nearby villages. The breaches have been reported at Machagaon Canal near Daleighai, and another at Tarikunda near Jagatsinghpur-Cuttack road resulting submergence of the road and agriculture fields.
