Monsoon to Hit Odisha in 24 Hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to hit Odisha within the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD said that conditions are favorable for advance of monsoon into some parts of Odisha during the next 24 hours.
The monsoon will be active in south Odisha in the first phase and subsequently cover the remaining parts of the State, it said.

“A cyclonic circulation at 0.9km above mean sea level over the Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Jharkhand and north Odisha has become less marked while a low pressure has formed over the north-east Bay of Bengal”, reads the bulletin.

“Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at one or two places in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati and Koraput on Friday, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Khurda, Boudh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on Saturday and Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur and Koraput on Sunday,” the bulletin said.
