New Delhi: The 2020 MotoGP champion Joan Mir has signed with Honda for 2023 and 2024, where he will team up with fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez, the Japanese team announced on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Mir did not have a ride for next season, because his current team Suzuki is quitting MotoGP.
Mir established himself as a World Champion-level talent from his first full season in Moto3 in 2016. In 2017, he lifted the lightweight class crown aboard a Honda before moving to the intermediate class the following year. Alongside two World Championships, the Spanish rider has claimed 12 Grand Prix wins and 33 podiums.
The 24-year-old will compete aboard the Honda RC213V in the Factory Team on a two-year contract alongside Marc Marquez.
Marquez, who went under the knife for his broken right arm, meanwhile, has been given the green light to intensify his training and assess the condition of his arm on a motorcycle.
The medical team has given Marquez approval to intensify his training, adding more weight and introducing more varied exercises into his routine. Alongside this, it has also been agreed for the eight-time World Champion to start training on motorcycles to understand the condition of his right arm with further context.
