Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated the doctors of IMS Sum Hospital for successfully carrying out the first ever living donor liver transplantation in Odisha.
In a tweet Naveen said “Congratulate the doctors of IMS and Sum Hospital for successfully conducting first ever living donor liver transplantation in #Odisha. The major healthcare milestone offers a ray of hope for patients to access such critical treatments in Odisha.”

A patient from Balasore district Jayant Biswala was being treated in the IMS Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar who needed a lever transplant immediately. After tests, doctors found his son Soumyaranjan’s lever to match with the patient. Soumyaranjan’s lever was successfully transplanted to his father of Friday.
The complicated operation started at 3 pm on Friday and ended at the midnight. About forty doctors from IMS SUM Hospital and Yashoda Hospital Hyderabad participated in the operation process. Head of the Gastroenterology Department Dr Manoj Sahu led the successful operation.
