Bhubaneswar: In a major decision, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has doubled the cash benefits under the Mamata Scheme.
Currently, under Mamata Yojana, pregnant women are being provided Rs 5,000 in two installments. As per decision of the Chief Minister, the pregnant women will now get Rs 10,000 in assistance.
All eligible beneficiaries will get this enhanced amount from August 2023. The outstanding amount will be available to the beneficiaries between the 20th and 25th of this February, according to an official release.
The Chief Minister had launched the ‘Mamata Yojana’ in 2011with an aim to reduce maternal & child mortality and malnutrition. The Mamata Yojana is very popular and has been adopted as a model at the national level.
In the Mamata Yojana, the amount of assistance will be directly disbursed to the beneficiary’s bank account in 2 installments. In the first installment after 6 months of pregnancy, Rs. 6,000 and in the second installment after ten months, Rs. 4,000 will be provided.
All pregnant women above 19 years of age can get this assistance for two children. It has been decided that the women of 13 Scheduled Tribes will be given maternity allowance for each pregnancy.
It is worth noting that during the district visit of 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman V. Kartik Pandian, women requested to increase the assistance under Mamata scheme. Today, the Chief Minister increased the amount of assistance under the Mamata scheme.
Since the inception of this scheme, over 60 lakh pregnant and lactating mothers have been benefited. For this, the State Government has transferred Rs. 2,900 crores to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
