Naveen Reiterates Inclusion of Ahimsa in Preamble of Constitution

New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reiterated the inclusion of the ideal of ‘Ahimsa’ (Non-violence) in the Preamble of the Constitution.

Speaking at the second meeting of the committee for celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, the Odisha CM said that the Mahatma Gandhi’s doctrine of Ahimsa is the most powerful tool to achieve peace, prosperity and equality in the country.

Naveen said the most important aspect of the Mahatma’s doctrine of non-violence was that poverty and social injustice were the worst kind of violence.

As Gandhi ji said that as long as poverty exists freedom is meaningless. To remove poverty is the greatest task faced by any government. This cannot be achieved without non-violence, Naveen said.

The Odisha CM also called upon the youths to follow the doctrines of Gandhi ji in their day-to-day lives.

‘Ahimsa’ is the most powerful message to the world which originated in India. It was Ahimsa which made our freedom struggle unique in the world he added.

The inclusion of Ahimsa in the Preamble of the Constitution would be a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the CM emphasized.
