Naveen Attends LWE Review Meeting in Delhi

New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is in New Delhi to attend the review meeting on Left Wing Extremism convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting is going to be chaired by the Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of eleven states that are affected by LWE.

The review meeting is going to discuss a number of issues face by the LWE affected states. The State Chief Secretaries and DGPs are also participating in the meeting. The security issues to be discussed in the meeting include intensifying operations against LWE, filling up of security vacuum, choking flow of funds to Maoists and concerted action by state police, ED, and NIA. The high level meeting is also going to discuss the issues related to investigation and prosecution of cases related to LWE. Other things in the agenda include coordination among states, capacity building of state police departments, Unified Command, infrastructure of CAPF camps and utilization of funds under the Special Central Assistance scheme.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is also expected to raise concerns relating to the state. He is demanding the center to waive off charges on deployment of Central Reserve Police Forces in the state. The state is also demanding the center to increase tele-density in the backward districts for better management of anti-naxal operations.

The state has been witnessing a downward trend in Naxal incidents. Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has said that the Mao activities are now restricted to just five districts out of 15 in the past.
