Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion of Ratha Yatra, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today unveiled the foundation stones of Bagchi-Sri Shankar Cancer Hospital & Research Center and the Bagchi-Karunashraya Palliative Care Center at Infocity-2 on the outskirts of capital Bhubaneswar. The state of the art Bagchi-Sri Shankar Cancer Centre & Research Institute will come up in a 25 acre land given by the Government of Odisha.
The Cancer center will have 750 beds with all advanced medical facilities and is expected to be operational by 2023. The Bagchi-Karunashraya Palliative Care center will take care of the patients with a humane touch.
Odisha Skill Development Authority Charman Subroto Baghchi and his wife Sasmita Baghchi have pledged Rs 340 Crore for the two cancer care centers. While the Shankara Cancer Care Foundation would run the Cancer hospital, Karunashraya Hospice Trusts will manage the palliative care.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that “ I am very happy to learn that the hospital will now be 750 beded with the latest technology. I am sure the center will become a leading research institution and attract oncologists from across the world and serve the humanity.” He also said that “It is heartening to note that world class palliative care will be provided completely free of cost. I am sure that both the institutions will help the patients of Odisha in accessing quality healthcare facilities particularly for the poor. I assure that the government will provide all support for the early completion of these institutions.
