Naveen Urges All to Give Empathy Towards Older People in Long Drawn Fight Against COVID-19 Pandemic

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged all to offer empathy towards older people in the long drawn fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, “Older people are disproportionately vulnerable to COVID-19 infection due to decreased immunity”.

On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons today, the Odisha CM urged all to take a pledge to ensure that the older persons should stay socially connected and get all the love, care and empathy during this long drawn fight against the pandemic.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed on October 1 each year. On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons to raise awareness of the special health needs of older persons and of their contributions to their own health and to the functioning of the societies in which they live.
