Berhampur: At a time when the Odisha Government has stepped up its efforts to obtain the prestigious Blue Flag certification for Gopalpur sea beach in Ganjam district, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Berhampur has come up with a unique sand cleaning tool, which will help the Ganjam administration in its beach cleanliness drive.
Designed and developed by the Design Thinking Lab of ITI Berhampur in association with Gopalpur NAC, this eco-friendly cleaning tool can clean 1000 square feet in just one hour without much manual work.
It is light weight and can be easily maneuvered to any type of sand area. It can remove broken glass, sea shells, stones or other debris.
Designed to clean, groom and comb any sand surface, the latest innovation by ITI Berhampur is perfect for those daily surface cleanings.
Speaking about the new tool, Dr. Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, Principal, ITI, Berhampur said, “It is a new innovation by the institute in New Year. It will make the ongoing cleanliness drive at the famous Gopalpur beach easier”.
The device can be used by anyone, he said while adding that it will support the administration in its efforts to get ‘Blue Flag’ tag for the beach.
The device will be formally launched by Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange on January 3.
Recently, the Odisha Government has taken several measures to obtain the Blue Flag Beach status to two beaches in Ganjam – Gopalpur and Sunapur beaches, along with other beaches in the State.
The Tourism Department has taken up several activities to further develop the Gopalpur beach to boost local tourism.
Notably, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) awards coveted ‘Blue Flag’ certification to beaches across the globe on the basis of 33 parameters on cleanliness, eco-friendly environment and tourist-friendly amenities.
