New Delhi: India’s apex think tank NITI Aayog has lauded Odisha Government’s decentralized model of production and distribution under Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) through Women Self help Groups.
In a letter to the Chief Secretaries/Administrators of States and Union Territories the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant has stated that decentralised model of SNP production and distribution through greater engagement with SHGs in Odisha and Kerala has brought in greater transparency and efficiency through elimination of middlemen. It has empowered women SHGs and given a new source of income to them, he further added.
He further requested other States to emulate these models to achieve significant progress towards ensuring the health and nutrition of women and children.
It may be noted that Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti Department in State Government has engaged women SHGs for preparation and packaging of Take Home Ration (THR) under Supplementary Nutrition programme with a fixed day approach.
