No Ban on Referral of COVID-19 Patients to Twin City, Says Health Dept

Bhubaneswar: Amid spike in the Coronavirus cases in the twin city, the Odisha Health Department today asserted that there is no ban on referral of COVID-19 patients to Bhubaneswar or Cuttack.

The referral cases continue to be transferred and treated at higher facilities daily, it said.

However, as there is risk to the patient during transportation it has been advised that only cases that require referral and are stable enough to undertake the journey safely should be transferred, the Health Department.

This is to ensure that the highest standards of professional care are maintained and that patient safety is put first, it added.

Earlier today, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy also said that the State Government is not banning movement of patients to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. It’s regulating to ensure that they travel safe and with proper medical advice and logistics, he added.

Covid patients travelling to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on advice of health authorities must do so under proper med mgt & equipment/oxygen support, he said while adding that carelessness in the past has led to serious consequences.

The State Government has created advanced Covid facilities in twin cities for the entire State, the Chief Secretary stated.
