Novelist Ipsita Receives ‘ABHIPSA-2022’ Award for Contribution to English Literature

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s promising author and novelist Ipsita Dash has received the ‘ABHIPSA-2022’ award for her contribution to the English literature on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.

Ipsita, whose maiden book ‘Ploughing the Mirage’ has been widely appreciated in the academic and literary circles, has received the prestigious award from Governor of Odisha, Prof. Ganeshi Lal at a function organized by Mirambika, a national level NGO working for women’s empowerment.

She is among the 12 women achievers selected by Mirambika for the award for their contribution in various fields on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The ‘Ploughing the Mirage’, released by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently, is a sneak- peek into the life of a 22-year-old Indian woman who moves to London. Amid the unrelenting fear of living alone, bracing the unknown and grappling with abrupt cultural jolts, she molds herself in, shuns some bits of her innocence and attempts to construct her own identity, with the help of her sassy twin.

The author has, through a young adult’s lens, brought out ably the unrelenting fear of living alone and bracing the unknown and her ceaseless attempts at constructing an identity in her book.
While giving away the award, the Governor has highly appreciated the literary works of Ipsita Das and conveyed his best wishes for her future endeavors.

In his speech, the Governor highlighted empowerment of women in Odisha as a model in the country.

Celebration of Raja festival in Odisha, is one and only festival in the whole world, which is dedicated to women. Nowhere else such a rare festival dedicated to women is found. The position of women in Odisha is a model for others, he said.
