Malkangiri: In line with the vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide nutrition-based food security across the State, the Odisha Government has started ‘Nutrition at Doorsteps’ initiative from Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri district.
“Nutrition At Doorsteps’ initiative, aligning with the healthy Odisha vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, was launched from the Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri”, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment informed.
On the occasion, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Ranendra Pratap Swain distributed quality fruit and vegetable saplings, as well as a vegetable mini kit to identified households.
MP, local MLA, ZP President and other public representatives were present, besides Principal Secretary, Directors of Dept, and Collector, Malkangiri.
The ‘Nutrition at Doorsteps’ initiative will provide nutri-fruits and vegetables to the households. Each household will receive vegetable mini kit containsing six different nutritious garden fruit saplings and vegetable seed mini kit of brinjal, okra, green chili, and palak. This program will not only help establish backyard plantations in each participating household, but also provide access to fresh, healthy produce for families in need.
During the initial phase, over 8 lakh households will be included in the initiative with an allocated budget of about Rs 18 crore, the Agriculture Department said.
The initiative will be later implemented across all 30 districts of Odisha, it added.
