Odisha: 3 New Cases of Scrub Typhus Found in Sundargarh

Rourkela: Three new cases of Scrub Typhus have been detected in Sundargarh taking total number of cases in the district to 183.

As per the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), three persons have tested positive for Scrub Typhus.

The CDMO informed that adequate stock of medicines is available for the patients and a special team of doctors is prepared to attend to the patients in the district.

Scrub Typhus test facilities have been made available at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The Health Department has deployed ASHA and Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife volunteers to spread awareness about the disease.

Earlier, the Health Department has directed the district health authorities to enhance the surveillance for seasonal upsurge of Scrub Typhus in the State. It has asked the district health authorities to ensure the availability of tests in DPHL by procurement and supply of required test kits, sensitise doctors to advise the tests in case of PUO, increase public awareness and early diagnosis along with Increased surveillance.

Scrub Typhus can spread through bites of infected chiggers. Farmers and people who regularly go to farmlands and forests are most vulnerable to chigger bites.
