Swami Vivekananda, a great Hindu monk and passionate patriot, was born in Kolkata on this day in 1863.
He was among the most celebrated spiritual leaders who worked tirelessly towards betterment of the society.
Vivekananda’s teachings laid a foundation for India’s unity. He taught how to live together with harmony in India, a country with extensive diversity.
He also represented India’s culture and Hinduism across the world and created a virtual bridge between India’s culture and the western world.
He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world.
