Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Malaria Day today, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik pledged to intensify the efforts to eliminate the killer sting completely.
“On World Malaria Day, pledge to intensify our efforts further to eliminate the killer sting completely”, the CM tweeted.
With intensive intervention and improved access to diagnosis and treatment, Odisha has emerged as role model for the world in malaria eradication, Naveen said.
World Malaria Day is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognises global efforts to control malaria. It is an international day to share information and educate world governments, local communities and at-risk people about malaria and the global efforts to control it.
Malaria is a life-threatening mosquito-borne blood disease. The Anopheles mosquito transmits it to humans. The parasites in mosquitos that spread malaria belong to the Plasmodium genus. Over 100 types of Plasmodium parasite can infect a variety.

On World Malaria Day 2020, WHO joins the RBM Partnership to End Malaria in promoting “Zero malaria starts with me”, a grassroots campaign that aims to keep malaria high on the political agenda, mobilize additional resources, and empower communities to take ownership of malaria prevention and care.
