Odisha: Ex-IAS Officer Vinod Kumar, 4 Others Convicted in ORHDC Scam

Bhubaneswar: Former IAS officer and Ex-Managing Director of Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) Vinod Kumar and four others were convicted in the ORHDC scam.

Other convicts are Swasti Ranjan Mohapatra, Ex-Company Secretary, ORHDC, Bhubaneswar; Umesh Chandra Swain, Ex-Loan Recovery Assistant, ORHDC, Bhubaneswar; Rashmi Pattanaik and Ratan Kumar Sahoo, both partners of M/s Home Lives Housing, Bhubaneswar.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar convicted the five, who were earlier charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in the corruption case.

This is the seventh consecutive conviction of Vinod Kumar in the corruption case.

The convicts were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.50,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months on each count for the offence. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

The three ORHDC officers had committed criminal misconduct by entering into criminal conspiracy and showed undue official favour to Rashmi Pattanaik and Ratan Kumar Sahoo in the matter of sanction and disbursement of loan amounting to Rs.50,00,00 without conducting proper documentation, pre and post sanction inspection and without obtaining adequate security, the Vigilance stated.
