Odisha Government Dismisses Corrupt IAS Officer Binod Kumar

Bhubaneswar: Reiterating its commitment of zero tolerance to corruption in public life, the Odisha government has dismissed from service IAS officer and former Managing Director of Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation Binod Kumar. He was found guilty of corruption. The Central Government has also agreed on the proposal of the state government in this regard.

IAS Binod Kumar, during his tenure as Managing Director of Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation during the Super Cyclone of 1999 had allegedly handed over loans amounting Rs 33.34 crore to bogus companies and beneficiaries breaking all the guidelines and there by incurring huge financial loss to the government. The Government of Odisha had initiated probe into the allegations and the Vigilance department had filed 27 cases against him. He has been convicted in two of those cases.

The Odisha Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has a strict policy of zero tolerance to corruption and inefficiency. Recently, a senior officer of the Forest Service was also dismissed from service for corruption.
