Odisha Govt Has Failed to Make Proper Arrangements for Habisyalis: BJD

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has failed to make proper arrangements for Habisyalis in Puri, alleged the Biju Janata Dal.

The month of Kartik is very auspicious for Odia people, especially for Habisyalis as they go to Puri to stay near Lord Jagannath and to pray. The BJP-led state government has failed to make adequate arrangements for the Habisyalis, hence they are facing a lot of difficulties, said BJD spokesperson Lekhasri Samantsinghar while briefing the press.

The government has tortured hundreds of Habisyalis in the holy month of Kartik. It has hurt the faiths and sentiments of Habisyalis. The Habisyalis had to spend a night on the streets due to lack of accommodation. The state government did not pay attention to the safety and security of the Habisyalis, the BJD leader said.

The BJP came to the government by misleading the common and innocent people of Odisha. Every day there is an attack on the Odia Asmita. Even though the month of Kartik is a holy month for the Odia people, the state government has desecrated the Habisyalis, she added.

Brundabati Niwas was built at the cost of Rs 39 crore during the BJD government. Adequate arrangements were made for the Habisyalis for their Kartik brata in Puri by the Naveen Patnaik government, she added.

Habisyalis have been harassed in the name of registration. Even though, the state government had assured to provide accommodation facilities for Habisyalis during the registration process, but the many Habisyalis did not get accommodation. The registration process was supposed to continue for five days, but the portal was shut down on the second day, as per reports.

Hundreds of non-registered Habisyalis had staged massive protests outside Brundabati Niwas, spending the night in the open after being denied accommodation.
