Odisha Govt Makes Strategy to Provide Livelihood Support to Migrant Workers, Aims to Generate 20 Lakh Mandays Per Day under MGNREGS

Bhubaneswar: With the influx of lakhs of migrant labourers into the State and many have already completed their quarantine period, the Odisha Government has put a detailed plan in place to provide them livelihood support and wage employment opportunity through MGNREGS and Livelihood Mission.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has directed district Collectors to take up large number of labour intensive projects under MGNREGS and livelihood support by Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM).

Acording to release, Tripathy has also directed line departments like Forest & Environment, Soil Conservation, Horticulture, Sericulture, Fisheries & Animal Resource Departments, Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment and ST & SC Development to take up more and more projects under MGNREGS for enhancing daily labour engagement, in convergence mode.

The Chief Secretary further directed official to prepare such a plan systematically so that it can create create sustainable community assets in different sectors of rural economy.

The Collectors have also been directed to start at least two works in each village by first week of June so that labour engagement can go up to 20 lakh per day by end of this month.  As of today, around 12 lakh man-day generated in the State.

The Government has also decided to sanction the MGNREGS projects and implement the same on campaign mode.

It has also been decided to takeup labour intensive projects such as large scale plantation, stop dam, fodder cultivation, horticulture, sericulture, field bonding, and water-shed development along with other asset creation works.

Thrust has also been given to take up in convergence with OLM.

Further, it has also been decided to fix weekly man-days target for each line department and monitor those closely on weekly basis.

Development Commissioner , Suresh Mohapatra stressed on timely payment of wages.

MGNREGS
