Odisha Govt Takes Steps for Immediate Solution of Years-Old Land Issues in Various Dists 

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken a historic decision to solve the land problems in various places and provide patta or record of rights to the people.

Earlier, a policy decision was taken to solve the land-related problems in Surada block in Ganjam district, Puri Municipality and Hirakud dam displacement in Jharsuguda district.

A major decision has been taken today to resolve the land issues of Sikkim Raitas and the land issues of Hirakud dam displacement in Rengali Tehsil of Sambalpur district.

It is worth noting that Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian had received many grievances from the people related to land issues. The people reported to the 5T Secretary about the long-standing displacement problems caused by Hirakud dam project, the land rights problems of the people who have been living on government land for a long time, the raita problems. Steps have been taken to solve the land-standing land issues of the people after the Chief Minister was informed about it.

On the directions of the Chief Minister, three meetings were held with the Revenue and Disaster Management Department in the first and second week of September in this regard.

In connection with the progress of the decision taken in that review meeting, another high-level meeting was held today and many historic decisions were taken.

In the meeting, 5T Secretary VK Pandian, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department Satyabrata Sahu, Law Secretary Manas Ranjan Barik, Collectors of Ganjam, Sambalpur, Puri, Khordha and Jharsuguda districts and other senior officials were present.

In the meeting, it was decided to provide land to the people by permanently solving the land problem.

It has been instructed to conduct hi-tech survey to solve the land issues caused due to displacement by Hirakud project in Kurla, Thuntiktarbaga, Yogipalli, Sapne villages under Rengali tehsil of Sambalpur district.

It is recommended to complete the survey work as soon as possible and resolve the land issue. Similarly, a policy decision has been taken for a permanent solution to the land problems of the Sikkim ryots. This will benefit about 2 lakh small and marginal farmers of Cuttack, Puri and Balasore districts.

In Jharsuguda district, the problem of people displaced by Hirakud Dam is more than 50 years old. 18 villages of Lakhanpur tehsil and one village of Jharsuguda tehsil, thus 19 villages were decided to solve the land problem. The first phase of leases will be distributed from Limaitikara village. In 22 villages of Sorda district of Ganjam, it has been decided to solve the old land problems and distribute both gharbari pattai and farm land patta.

Similarly, the Jatni Khasmahal land issue will be resolved and the first phase of lease will be distributed soon. Similarly, Puri Municipality has given about 504 acres of land on lease basis to various institutions and people for many years. In this high-level meeting, it was decided to fix appropriate fees on individuals and institutions to regularize leases allocated as per appropriate lease terms and municipal rules. Today’s meeting decided to make the necessary changes in the OGLS rules after approving the rules to regularize the leases.
