Bhubaneswar: In order to enhance air connectivity into Odisha, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led State Government has agreed to provide financial support for AirAsia’s direct flight operation between Bhubaneswar and Pune for three months.
Apart from improving connectivity, the flight services will give boost to tourism and investor footfall.
This has been informed by the Chief Minister’s Office through its Twitter handle.
The direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Pune has become possible following the intervention of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
During his visit to Pune, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had assured the Odia community that he would personally initiate steps for introduction of direct flight between these two places. Subsequently, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to start direct flight between the two cities.
Many academicians and IT professionals frequently visit both the places. Besides, tourists from Pune undertake journey to various places like Puri, Konark and Chilka while the people of Odisha visit Shirdi, Mahabaleswar, Trimbakeswar near Pune, Naveen said in a letter to Union Civil Aviation Ministry earlier.
Naveen said since there was no direct flight between the two cities, passengers have to take flight via Hyderabad or Mumbai which is costlier and time consuming.
Following the intervention of Naveen Patnaik, the long-standing dream of people of Odisha is going to be a reality.
