Bhubaneswar: Road safety is a matter of concern throughout the world. Emergency medical care plays a crucial role in the reduction of fatalities. To provide emergency care facilities in an efficient manner to the road accident victims, the Odisha Goverment has taken steps for free treatment of victims in private hospitals.
Golden Hour is very crucial for any road accident victim. In many accident cases, the patients are not conscious and the identity of the victim is not available. It is understood that the condition of the victim in the first 48 hours is very critical, which may lead to death if not managed properly. To ensure that, the victim does not lose his/her life, due to lack of proper medical treatment, the State Government has decided to extend the free treatment of the accident victims in private hospitals having trauma care facilities of level-1 standard for 48 hours, an official statement said.
For reimbursement of the treatment cost, Rs 4 crore is being provided at the first instance to the Health & Family Welfare out of Odisha Road Safety Fund.
Initially, the scheme is being started at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The best Hospitals like Appollo, AMRI, etc.. are covered under the Scheme.
In phases, this facility will be extended to other cities like Rourkela, Berhampur Sambalpur, etc.
SOP for the purpose has been developed by Health & Family Welfare Department.
If the patient is taken to the nearest private Trauma Care Centers, the hospital will start immediate appropriate treatment and intimate the DMET, Odisha for such arrival of the patients.
The DMET, Odisha shall release a formal permission letter to go ahead with the treatment either by email or any electronic media.
At the end of 48 hours from the time of admission, the private hospital shall submit the supporting documents for examination & reimbursement of the cost of treatment.
The fund provided by the Transport Department will be kept at SBI under “Free Treatment for Trauma Fund”.
