Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is planning to set up a new elephant sanctuary in order to reduce man-animal conflict in the State.
The sanctuary is likely to be established somewhere in between Berhampur and Kandhamal.
Talking about it, Chief Wildlife Warden Hari Shankar Upadhyay said that the forest reserve area between Ganjam and Kandhamal districts will soon be declared a new elephant sanctuary.
He said that a new infra range device will be installed along the elephant corridors in order to capture sounds of the movement of the elephants and alert people in the nearby areas.
The device will be developed with the help of IIT-Bhubaneswar.
A radio collar will be attached around the neck to monitor elephants movement, which will enable to identify the exact location of the elephants and drive them out of the area, the official further said.
