Odisha Govt Will Consider Proposal for Setting up a Medical College in Rayagada: Minister

Bhubaneswar: As part of the Mo Sarkar initiative, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led government will review the proposal for establishment of a medical college at Rayagada, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare Naba Kishore Das in Assembly.

Replying to the question of Independent MLA Makarand Muduli in the Assembly about setting up of a medical college and hospital in Rayagada, Das said the government will go into the matter in detail and added that if possible then due measures will be taken in this regard.

Raised the matter during question hour, Muduli said as the adivasi dominated region of Rayagada does not have good medical facilities and they rely heavily on Berhampur and Visakhapatnam cities for such facilities.

He said if government will take measures to set up a medical college in Rayagada, then as many as eleven districts will benefit from the infrastructure.

The Minister said the government has already set up seven medical college and hospitals in the state and added six more of such projects are in the pipeline.

Das said medical colleges are also being set up in undivided Koraput and Kalahandi districts.

The State had three medical colleges and hospitals in 50 years, he said while adding that the government will consider on the proposal of setting up a medical college and hospital in Rayagada.
