Odisha Has Laid a Strong Foundation in Field of Skill Development: Minister

Bhubaneswar: Capacity building in the state is essential for economic development and meeting the need for skilled manpower in the state. In the past few years, our state has made progress in all areas and has brought changes in the lives and livelihood of people. “We have laid a strong foundation in the field of skill development, but there are many challenges in consolidating the collective efforts of all departments,” said Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Prithiranjan Gharai.

In the meeting held at the conference room of World Skill Center today, Minister Gharai said that the integration of data about skilled youth under the skilling initiatives of various departments is a major challenge for us. For which we are not able to present a coherent picture of competence in the state. By investing in human resources, we know which departments need skills in which areas so we can provide them with appropriate training. Working collectively with inter-departmental coordination and collaborating with each other will lead to capacity building. At the same time a strong human resource can be established in the state, Minister Gharai added.

The department is always keen to provide skilled manpower by keeping in view the demand and recruitment requirements in the state. Therefore, various departments have sought the cooperation of Skill Development and Technical Education department to fulfill this requirement and wanted everyone’s cooperation. The Minister emphasized that each department should prepare a roadmap for skilled manpower and coordinate regularly with the skill development department. Minister Gharai asserted that the department is committed to providing skilled manpower with the latest technology.

School and Mass Education Minister Sudam Marndi said that people determine their future course of action based on time and interest. Proper training helps in the development of the country.

Marndi said that the Department of Public Education in association with the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education will further lead the state in the direction of human resource development.

In the meeting, the Principal Secretary of the department Usha Padhee, highlighted the convergence in skilling and coordinated action for skilling in Odisha, which was taken up by the Department through Power Point.

Principal secretaries and secretaries of 18 departments present in the meeting including School and Mass Education Department, Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department, MSME Department, Tourism Department, Labour and Employees State Insurance Department, Industries Department, Mission Shakti Department, Energy Department presented their views. Reghu Jee, Director of Employment-cum-Chief Executive Officer, Odisha Skill Development Authority proposed the vote of thanks.
