Bhubaneswar:
The Odisha Home Department on Thursday urged the Director General of
Fire Services to carry out inspection of fire safety measures at all
coaching centres across the State.
The directive came in the wake of a major fire mishap at a coaching centre in Gujarat’s Surat that killed at least 21 students.
SK
Mishra, Special Secretary to Home Department, wrote a letter to Fire
Services DG BK Sharma urging him to carry out inspection of all coaching
centres in major towns of the State including twin cities of
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
The inspection will be carried out under the provisions of Odisha Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Rules, 2017, the letter said.
Odisha
Abhibhabak Mahasangha had submitted a memorandum to the Home Department
raising concerns about the safety of students at private coaching
centres across the State.
Notably, the Odisha Fire Services
Department had conducted raids at several coaching centres in the Twin
City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on May 27.
