Bhubaneswar: After obtaining the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its Rasagola, Odisha is now conducting research on Chhena Jhili to seek the same recognition for the much-loved dessert.
As per reports, the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has started a survey at Puri district’s Nimapara region, the origin of the dessert made from fresh Chhena.
Headed by researcher Asit Mohanty, a three-member expert team had visited Nimapara to conduct survey on origin of the dessert.
The team met the local vendors preparing the classic dessert at Nimapara market about the history and original recipe of Chhena Jhili.
The State government will take necessary steps to initiate process for GI tag after the team submits its report, sources said.
Chhena jhili is a popular dessert from Cuisine of Odisha. It is prepared in fried cheese and sugar syrup.
