Bhubaneswar: Odisha-Mo Parivar has rescued Odia laborers and their children from a brick kiln in Telangana.
As many as 16 laborers and five children were rescued from a brick kiln at Begumpet village in Peddapalli district of the southern state following the intervention of the Biju Janata Dal’s social service wing.
The rescued laborers are from Balangir and Subarnapur districts, sources said. The kiln owner identified as Kate Prabhakar of Begumpet village.
The Odias were allegedly exploited as bonded laborers in human conditions. They had to work without payment for the last two months. Besides, their children were forced to work in the kiln.
The matter came to the notice of Odisha-Mo Parivar through a help-line number and the team swung into action to rescue the laborers.
Mo Parivar Convenor Arup Patnaik contacted to the former Andhra Pradesh DGP SA Huda and sought his help. He also requested the Collectors and Odisha Labour Commissioner to take necessary steps for the rescue of the laborers.
Following this, a Telangana police team raided the brick kiln and rescued the laborers and children. The children were shifted to a safer place.
The labor inspector also visited the place to assess the situation. The rescued laborers informed about their problems including the payment dues.
Meanwhile, Odisha-Mo Parivar has received appreciations from across the State for its act of humanity.
