Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has decided to install mobile phone detectors in jails across the State soon for better surveillance on jail inmates.
The seizure of cell phones from different jails during surprise raids has promoted the Prison Department to take such step to prevent use of mobile phones in jails.
Informing this, DG Prisons, Santosh Kumar Upadhyay said that nearly 300 mobile phone detectors will be introduced in 91 jails to improve surveillance on jail inmates.
The jail staffs will not be allowed to carry mobile phones inside the premises, Upadhyay stated.
Security will be beefed up in the jail where gangster Shakeel is lodged, he added.
