Odisha: Pension and Gratuity of Ex-ASO Withheld after Conviction in Bribery Case

Cuttack: The Odisha Government has withheld the pension and gratuity of a retired Assistant Section Officer in Cuttack district after her conviction in a bribery case.

The accused has been identified as Renuka Devi, Ex-ASO (Retired), Board of Revenue, Odisha, Cuttack.

Renuka was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Cuttack Vigilance PS Case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant for issuance of registration certificate for Private Hospital Association.

She was imposed with a penalty of withholding of full pension & gratuity permanently as per provision of Rule 7(1) of the OCS (Pension) Rules,1992 with effect from 16.05.2024 by the competent authority following her conviction by Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack in bribery case.

Renuka was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and pay a fine of Rs.10,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988.

Following the conviction of Renuka Devi, Odisha Vigilance communicated in this regard to the competent authority to take appropriate action against Renuka Devi.

Accordingly, Renuka Devi was imposed with a penalty of withholding of full pension & gratuity permanently by the competent authority for bribery.
