Sambalpur: The seating capacity of Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Odisha’s Sambalpur district will be increased to 21,000 from 17,000 spectators, according to media reports.
With the addition of a new gallery, the seating capacity of this major stadium in western Odisha will be enhanced to accommodate 4,000 more spectators.
The Odisha Government has already sanctioned funds for the construction of the new gallery of the Veer Surendra Sai Stadium.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced Rs 3 crore for development of the stadium.
Besides the gallery, a 100-bed dormitory will also be set up with fund, said an official.
The new gallery of the stadium will be constructed shortly and its design has already been prepared, sources said.
Veer Surendra Sai Stadium has hosted several first-class cricket matches since 1973.
