Bhubaneswar: Two commandos of SOG sustained bullet injuries in an anti-Maoist operation on the Kandhamal-Boudh border area in Odisha on Friday.
The injured jawani were airlifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment by DGP Abhay.
Based on reliable input an operation was launched under Gochapada PS of Kandhamal district on Friday. During search of the core area Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on the security forces this morning. Two commandos of SOG sustained bullet injuries. Both of them with the help of CRPF were rescued and brought to the road head from the operational area, police said.
DGP Abhay while on a tour to Malkangiri and Koraput districts to review anti-LWE work, when he heard the news at Sunabeda canceled his program and rushed to Padelpada in Boudh.
The DGP himself airlifted the injured to Bhubaneswar. Doctor has accompanied.
One IAF Helicopter was also requisitioned but could not make it to Padelpada because of bad weather en route.
Both the commandoes are stable.
Operation has been intensified in the area. Police have recovered several incriminating articles from the spot, such as 12 Bore Country Made Gun, 8 MM Country Made Gun, Haversack, Umbrella, Maoist Uniform, Solar Panel, Polythene Sheet, Radio ( Small ), Steel Tiffin Carrier, Steel Plate, Steel Mug, Battery (Small ), Wire Some Amount , Codex Wire and Maoist Literature.
