Bhubaneswar: The nomination papers filled by the various candidates for the Urban Polls in the state will be scrutinized today. The candidates, who wish to withdraw their nominations can do so by the 14th of this month after which the final list of candidates will be published. One hundred nine urban local bodies including three Municipal Corporations are going for elections on the 24th of this month. The counting of votes will be held on 26th March.
Ahead of the full speed campaigning for the elections, the State Election Commissioner has held a meeting with the senior Police and Administrative officials of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack regarding free and fair elections. The priority has been on maintaining law and order and to see than there is no violation of Model Code of Conduct. The SEC has asked the Twin Cities Police Commissionerate to take strict action against those who defy the rules and regulations. While sufficient forces will be deployed at the booth level, there will also be women and Adarsha booths set up. While 4584 booths are being set up in the ULBs, more than 42 lakh voters will cast their votes.
