Odisha’s Sukumar Mishra Becomes New Director of IIT-Dhanbad

Bhubaneswar: Prof. Sukumar Mishra from Odisha has been appointed as the director of IIT-Dhanbad.

Mishra is among the new directors appointed by Union Education Ministry for six IITs in the country.

Mishra received his M.Tech and Phd in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela in 1992 and 2000, respectively.

He is currently serving as dean, research and external engagement, IIT-Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus.
He has won many accolades such as Young Scientist award (1999) by Orissa Bigyan Academy, INSA medal for young scientist (2002), INAE young engineer award (2002), INAE silver jubilee young engineer award (2012), The Samanta Chandra Shekhar award (2016), Bimal Bose award (2019) and NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee award (2019), National Mission Innovation Championship award (2019), INAE Outstanding Teachers award (2021), Innovation leadership award (2023) and Prof. K.L. Chopra applied research award (2023).

Mishra’s research expertise lies in the field of Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy and Smart Grid.

Besides Mishra, the Union Education Ministry has appointed Manindra Agrawal, Avinash Agarwal, Devendra Jalihal, Dhirendra S Katti and Amit Patra as directors at IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Jodhpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Goa and IIT-BHU, respectively.
