Bhubaneswar: The office building of Bhubaneswar Member of Parliament Aparajita Sarangi has been sealed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation for violating Covid-19 guidelines. This comes after some Covid warriors of the locality complained against the MP to the DCP today. Officials of BMC and Commissionerate police today sealed the official building. The commissionerate police had sent a notice for sealing the office for 15 days after receiving the complaint. This comes within days of the Member of Parliament celebrated her birthday at the office with a huge crowd of supporters breaking all Covid-19 guidelines.
Earlier on Friday, Odisha Minister of State (MoS) for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra had written a letter to Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in this regard. Enclosing the videos along with the letter, the Odisha Minister said that the video clearly shows the MP surrounded by hundreds of women who are neither wearing masks (except one) nor maintaining social distance and indulging in song and dance with utter disregard to Covid guidelines issued under the National Disaster Management Act and the earnest repeated appeals made by Prime Minister regarding the same.
The Bhubaneswar MP has blatantly violated COVID guidelines several occasions. In addition to repeated advisories, warnings and booking of at least three cases against Sarangi for violation of Covid guidelines, there is no improvement in her behavior, Mishra mentioned in his letter to the Union Minister.
