Bhubaneswar: OMC has embarked on implementing the internationally acclaimed European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) framework to further strengthen its transformational journey and achieve business & operational goals which will place the Corporation at global stage and amongst the world’s renowned companies. In an official ceremony, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Addl. Chief Secretary, Department of Steel & Mines and Chairman, OMC inaugurated the EFQM implementation in OMC at the IDCOL auditorium on 8th November 2023 in the presence of Balwant Singh, Managing Director, OMC, Functional Directors, employees of the Corporation along with senior officers of the implementation partner Grant Thornton.
In the three years of EFQM journey, the Corporation will adopt the international best practices for sustaining its high growth trajectory and establishing excellence in areas of operations, business strategies, leadership & culture, employee & community engagement, environment & sustainability, innovation and adaptability, customer value creation, technology-driven performance leading to its transformation.
Speaking on the occasion, D K Singh, Chairman, OMC, said that human journey is a journey of evolution and of continuous improvement which equally applies to society as well as organisations. As an organisation, OMC has achieved many feats since its inception, becoming one of the largest mining companies in India, increasing its revenue manifold.
Now it’s the time for strengthening the systems and striving for excellence. He congratulated OMC for adopting EFQM, a global business excellence framework as the guiding principle for becoming a world class Company.
Balwant Singh, MD, OMC, said that the Corporation with more than 30 million ton ore production in the last year, having 15000 workforce directly and indirectly and inspired by the 5T initiative of the Government of Odisha, is undergoing a transformational journey.
For this transformation, OMC wanted to adopt a global business excellence framework for which today is a milestone as we have embarked to adopt the EFQM implementation in OMC.
Alok Kumar Pal, Director (HR), in his welcome address, briefed about the benefits of the EFQM model implementation in OMC and its role in bringing about a sustainable value creation in business operations, people engagement and managing change.
He also informed that EFQM is a globally recognized framework, adopted by more than 50,000 organizations worldwide over 30+ years and it has acted as a blueprint for improvement and innovation for organizations with clear focus to build a better future for people, communities and organisations.
Also present on the occasion were Functional Directors of OMC Satyajit Mohanty, Director (Finance), Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (Operations), Dr Kshirod Chandra Brahma, Director (Project & Planning) including officials from the implementing partner organisation Niladri Bhattacharjee and Nitesh Jain who are Partners at Grant Thornton Bharat.
Russell, CEO and Gianluca Mulè, Deputy CEO of EFQM also joined through video conference.
Nitesh Jain presented the three year plan for achieving the EFQM model in OMC.
