Operationalise Rourkela Airport for FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup-2023: Naveen to Civil Aviation Minister

Bhubaneswar: As Odisha is gearing up to host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup-2023 at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sought operation of Rourkela Airport for the mega sporting event.

In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Odisha CM that the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held from 13th to 29th January, 2023 at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. In this regard, it is important to operationalise the Rourkela Airport before 30th November.

“It is requested that the important activities like renewal of the MoU between SAIL and AAI, completion of runway and terminal building, airport systems installation, etc – may be closely reviewed by the Ministry”, Naveen wrote in the letter.

The Odisha CM also sought intervention of the Union Minister for the airlines to be persuaded to start operations to Rourkela from metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc.
