Bhubaneswar: More than 2.21 lakh people are eligible to exercise their franchise in the ensuing by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly seat in Odisha, informed Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal here on Wednesday.
The by-poll to the Assembly seat will be held on May 10 and counting of votes will take place on May 13, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced earlier today.
Briefing the press, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer said that altogether 1,10,320 men and 1,10,687 women are eligible to cast their votes in the by-poll.
The voting will be conducted in 253 polling stations, Dhal said.
All arrangements will be made keeping in view of the weather condition in May, he added.
As per schedule announced by the ECI, formal notification for the by-poll will be issued on April 13 while candidates can file their nominations till April 20. Scrutiny of the papers will be done on the next day (April 21). Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers up to April 24. The entire election process will be completed by May 15.
The bypoll has been necessitated due to the death of sitting BJD MLA Naba Kishore Das.
