Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal is leading by 1,712 votes by the end of first round of counting in the by-poll to the Padampur Assembly seat in Bargarh district.
BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha has secured 5501 votes.
BJP’s Pradip Purohit got 3789 votes and Congress candidate Satya Bhusan Sahu received 206 votes.
The by-poll was held on December 5 and had witnessed record voter turnout of 81.29 percent.
