Bhubaneswar: Non-bailable warrants (NBWs) have been used against 1492 persons in Odisha from January 19 to February 6.
The Police and Excise departments have issued the NBWs against the persons from different districts on charges of hoarding of liquor, illegal possession of arms, possession of intoxicants, and violation of model code of conduct, according to reports.
The State Election Commission (SEC has imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of liquor 48 hours before the commencement of the panchayat elections.
The SEC has also imposed restrictions on carrying licensed firearms or any type of weapons near polling booths during voting.
The three-tier panchayat poll in State will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24.
